Winelands on Wings
Cape_to_Karoo_WinelandsThe Cape Winelands is a big and spread-out area of at least 22 000 square kilometres that stretches from Cape Town into the Karoo. To see it all will take days. But with Cape to Karoo Flyventures you can now see the most beautiful and biggest part of it in one hour.

Take off from Stellenbosch, the heart of the Winelands and fly low over the Paarl Valley, the awesome Du Toit’s Mountains and Bainskloof Pass, a magnificent piece of engineering, built in 1853 by Andrew Geddes Bain. It is a national monument and still regarded as one of the best passes in South Africa. Enter the Breede River Valley where the wide Breede River slithers like a silver snake through the valley, framed by a stretching quilt of vineyards.

Take in a bird’s eye view of the gnarled Stettyn Mountains and fly over the towns of Worcester and Robertson to turn southbound towards Franschoek via one of the most beautiful passes in the world. See little France with wine farms like Haute Cabriere, La Motte and Le’Ormirans from the air. Magnifique! The rugged ridge of Simonsberg Mountain guides you back to Stellenbosch.

Other Trips

Prince Albert

Cape_to_Karoo_KarooStarting from Stellebosch, fly low over the Western Cape Mountains displaying the beautiful Fynbos of the Cape Floral Kingdom.  The Fynbos gives way to the succulent Karoo vegetation on a big canvas of mountain art, rock formations and crevices that will leave you breathless. The scenic flight takes you over the Gamkakloof in a valley and on to Prince Albert - a quaint, typical Karoo town.

Visit the Kredouw valley to visit a world class olive farm, tasting award winning olive oil - one of the key industries in the area - do a wine tasting, have lunch and explore the town. Afterwards it is time to fly again, this time through the Swartberg, witnessing the miracle of the Swartberg Mountain Pass, a national monument built in the late 1800’s without any modern day instrumentation by Thomas Bain. The plane then turns westwards, slowly making its way back to Stellenbosch in the late afternoon of an unforgettable day.
